watercolors?

I decided to foray into the world of watercolors. Being terrified of a new medium, these are the results thus far:

This is the progression that the painting took. It was a difficult one. These paints were difficult to work with. It's finally finished though.

New Year...

This year I am going to push harder than ever to promote myself and my work. I think the hardest thing about being an artist in general is getting recognition for what you do. We try to go the old school route and enter all the exhibitions and open calls for art, juried shows, etc. BUT then when you make the kind of art that I make, it really excludes you from a lot of traditional arenas. Do I compromise my artistic belief and do something more mainstream or do I circumvent the traditional and create my own way? I guess the hard thing is that when I have a piece that can actually fit into the box for a traditional juried show and I enter and a piece that I know in my heart is inferior to what I have created wins, it really bums me out. I don't do mainstream work, so I need to figure out how to do non-mainstream marketing.

Any thoughts?
