Lets get Dirrrrty

I received a letter of acceptance from The 11th Annual Dirty Show in Detroit. I had a piece selected for exhibition during the show. Exciting stuff since it's one of the largest erotic art shows in the world. There are thousands of international entries every year, so I was excited to get a spot.

This is the painting that was selected:

New Painting progress

Started a new one

Started a new painting today

Finished and review

So there it is, start to finish. 3 days, not so bad. On to the next one.

you can't stop progress Muriel

This is the painting I started yesterday- lots more progress today, though still unfinished. I should be able to finish it pretty early tomorrow and start another *crosses fingers*

Small Steps

I started a new painting today- any guesses? I would have gotten a lot further, but along came a migraine, threatening to put me out of commission. Luckily, I was able to escape it's evil grasp by napping and ice packs for 2 hours. I definitely did not want a repeat of Saturday and Sunday. All of you migraine free people, count yourselves truly lucky. There are times when I would give ANYTHING not to have another migraine.

It's hard to believe that there are only 16 days left in the year. Time truly has flown this year, more than most it seems. This year I have had the opportunity to make new friends and really reconnect with family and friends that I had lost touch with over the years. There have been ups, and there and been downs- all in all I am thankful for a good year. I have a partner who loves and cares about me, great friends, and an extended family that truly reminds me of how lucky I am. Thanks to all of you for sticking by me this year, I know it can be difficult with all the mood swings and I know I can be an ass sometimes. Now that I am medicated, it's harder to blame it on my mental failings, but I will still try- I promise! But really, thanks to you all- you're in my life because you're special and I care about all of you a great deal.

Sunday is Fun-Day!

Not really, but ya gotta have a catchy headline! Today was pretty tame. Stayed in. Worked on a painting - even though I try not to do that on the weekend, but I was running a little behind on my deadline so I am trying to make sure I meet it. I need to start the new series this coming week, and I ALWAYS cut myself short on time- this time I am trying not to do that.

Watched a documentary (arghhh my head hurts- LOL) on the Exxon Valdez oil spill. I had no idea that they still haven’t completed the cleanup. I mean, officially they were done in like 93 or whatever, but they showed the Valdez beaches and how the spill has devestated the economy and environment. The herring population has still not recovered, there’s still oil sludge- it’s pretty disgusting. Of course all this has happened while Exxon is bragging that they are the most profitable company in history, with a profit of over 26 Billion in the past 5 years….it’s really sad that they pretty much fucked everyone in Alaska and took off. They never lived up to the promises that they made and so many people have suffered financially, emotionally and even their health has failed them. At the time the spill happened, the EPA estimates that the actually toxicity of oil to humans is a hundred times of what was thought initially. Also, they used a chemical to break up a lot of the oil which was considered harmless at the time, but is now considered a huge health risk, causing brain and nervous system damage and some types of cancer. This chemical was sprayed on and in everything around the spill for WEEKS. It’s crazy, and it’s got me all fired up to make myself a sign and go on a protest march somewhere.
We actually got the holiday cards we picked up yesterday all signed, sealed and ready to mail tomorrow- Go Us!

That’s how exciting it’s been today.

Me + Birds = Awesome Pic!

I usually try not to do any painting or anything on the weekends so that I don’t get burned out on any projects that I am working on and end up walking away from them. So, no art news to post today.
Today we had plans to visit Anthony’s mom because his uncle was celebrating his 73rd birthday today!! I also had to pick up holiday cards ::sigh:: it seems as if it is a lot more difficult to find actual holiday cards in Florida (as opposed to Christmas cards) than it ever was in Chicago. So- on 2 separate occasions today people seemed to be confused about lining up for checkout. The first time a gentleman walked up to the line of people, which obviously went from the register out into the walkway of the store with about 15 people standing there. He stood for a minute or two and looked at the people and then said “Oh, this must be the line”. Really? It took you two minutes to realize that it was a line of people for checkout and we really weren’t about to start a flash-mob? The second time was actually weirder, believe it or not. The woman walked up to us (it was only Anthony & I) looked around and said, “Where does the line start?”. Seriously lady, there are 2 people and a cashier, where do you think it starts? She actually stood off to the side until the cashier told her she could approach.
We also had to deal with someone driving literally 15 miles an hour below the speed limit (20 in a 35) and stopping at every crosswalk when there were no stop signs, and no pedestrians. I have decided that I should stay inside more often- interacting with people just puts me off.

Checking out this blog service

So, I am also on Tumblr and wanted to check out this blogging service too. I am new (gasp!) to the blogging scene, but decided as an artist, it will be easier to keep people aprised of my work and goings on through a blog. One post and everyone can read it, instead of emailing everyone seperately- and unfortunately, since I am an erotic artist, a lot of the art I do is unacceptable for FaceBook. So, I think what I will do is just post here and Tumblr as well and see what happens...If you want to check out my Tumblr and see some of my older (less than a week) posts, it's http://jonnyedge.tumblr.com/
